Revamp Delayed

January 11, 2010

Hej Folks,

It’s been sometime since I posted here. Last time I said I would be updating the site in 2010 but I’ve decided after some thought that I would need more than one year to re-launch the photography side of things so I decided to move this back in my schedule to 2011/2012. This year instead I’ll be working on an IT project which should help me revamp the photography site (and any other site I do afterwards).

I will still take photos when I can and if I do anything on the site I’ll let you know here but like I said the re-launch won’t be until 2012 now.

A Quick Update

February 3, 2009

This is just to say why things have been quiet on this site for a while. It wasn’t just the move to Denmark. Since doing my schedule for 2009 it was clear that my other websites and commitment had to come first as it needed a fair bit of ground work before I had the infrastructure I needed before moving onto the photography site. Originally I thought I might be moving into the photography full time as I have a room in my house that can be turned into a studio, but I’ve had to go back into IT again (with a great company I want to stay with) this had to take a side step.

I have now decided to focus on getting the other ideas up and running first and I will come back to the limited edition and stock photography ideas in 2010, with a website revamp and gallery update after going through my backlog of photos waiting for processing.

Also I’ve shut down the CafePress store as I’ve been paying for it for nearly a year but not had the time to do more than create the store and got nothing in return so far. The store needed a complete revamp anyway as the image footers needed changing. So it’s closed for now but I have the store name in reserve for 2010 when I’ll decide whether to reopen it or just set up my own. It will depend largely on the business model I adopt at the time and so will leave that decision until 2010.

I hope you are all well and feel free to see what is in my gallery already as it will give you a taste of what is to come next year.

Peace, Niamh x

Studio on the Move!

November 27, 2008

As some of you may know, I’ve recently gone through a move to Denmark. We’ve just gone online again and so there should be some more activity shortly. The website is going to go through a revamp, as it’s set up to target English markets, but this move has allowed me to define more clearly what I want to do with the studio.

Now I have the space to work with and many of the resources to hand I want to focus on the the artistic side of the business, rather than the commissioning side (although I’ll always consider offers, so please email me if your interested). I’ve worked on a new business model to bring out seasonal collections of work, to give time to build up enough images into a single launch.

I was hoping that the studio would be joined by another artist in this move, but this unfortunately fell through in October. However, our new location will make things a lot easier and once the new model is up and running for the first time we should have a system in place that makes things a lot smoother for the following rounds.

I do hope you check back soon when my latest images will be uploaded and things are moved around a bit. I’ll post once they’re ready.

Changes to the Gallery

July 23, 2008

Hi,

For anyone who has stopped by my gallery before might want to know that I’m currently working on updating it. I’ve got still a huge backlog of photographs to edit and put up on the web as I managed to run out of hard disk space on my laptop! So I’m going to have to go through and backup, archive and sort out all my pictures amongst other things.

This shake up has caused me to rethink the way I am using my gallery and my file space. So now they are ordered by a main photographic theme, such as ‘the natural world’, ‘travel’, ‘artistic’ etc. As I go through, get more space and work through my backlog new categories will pop up from time to time. This really is to make it a bit more coherent once we are ready to launch the site properly. This means, depending on which service people are interested in, they can get to the gallery section they want easier in once place to get an idea of what I can do.

I’ve added a ‘coming soon’ section to each main section of the gallery, so you know what work is in the pipeline. I’m also going to start dividing pictures up in categories based on whether I want it just for the gallery, stock images, merchandise or limited editions. However this is an internal things and they will all be in the gallery to view, as this is the one stop portfolio for my work.

On other news I’ve just had to get a new tripod as my old gorilla tripod doesn’t lock properly and it wasn’t strong enough for my macro/zoom lens. You can check it out here: http://www.jessops.com/Store/s17576/1-132-166-342/Home/Accessories/Tripods-and–Supports/Tripods/Jessops/Tripod-TP320/details.aspx

I gave it it’s first test run on Monday as I had a day in York and it was lovely and sunny and managed to get a nice one of the rooftop of the minster from the city walls among other things. So check back soon as I get through these and other photos from my backlog!

Take care,

Niamh

I’ve just returned from a photographic trip to the dales. Unfortunately the weather was all to typical nowadays for Britain and it rained throughout. It did pick up on the day we were packing up to leave but then my batteries died and I had forgot to pack my AA battery insert for my camera, which was a shame as we had just found a beautiful waterfall in the summer blue sky. Even though the sky was covered there were some incredible clouds blowing with fast winds and they alone were worth the shot in many cases, even though the original subject didn’t work out. It’s clear that the Dales wanted me to see it’s moody side.

I experimented with the depth of field a lot in this trip and the different picture style settings using the RAW format of the canon camera. As the lighting wasn’t as good as I was hoping for I’ve decided to use the monochrome settings (black and white/sepia) to my advantage to help capture the mood of the moment. I used mostly my wide angle lens but there were a few shots from my macro/zoom. However I’ve decided I need a new tripod as the current one won’t hold my camera in position with the zoom lens on, so I need to step up a level next time.

I will have the pictures up shortly in the gallery and then the store once I’ve processed the shoot. The gallery will show all the well composed shots from my travels and the store will take the best shots of each subject except for the crème de la crème of these which will be saved for limited edition prints once this has been launched. I will share any good shots (that I didn’t use for the store or Limited Edition pieces) with my online affiliates too.

Once we have launched the site officially there will be updates via our newsletter, but until then check back here to find out what is going on whilst I build my collections.

Right off to retouch my shots of the Moody Dales! To see a sneak preview at the first image entered into my limited edition 99 collection see here: http://gallery.niamhbrown.com/99-limited-edition/
